“Greatest Hits” składa się z pojedynczej płyty z 16 utworami, w tym dwa nowe utwory.
Edycja specjalna “Greatest Hits – The Ultimate Collection” zawiera 28, 30 lub 31 piosenek, w zależności od miejsca wydania (w tym 4 nowe utwory). Jest to wydawnictwo dwupłytowe składające się z wersji podstawowej na pierwszej płycie i z ulubionych utworów fanów na drugiej.
Wersja japońska zawiera w sumie 31 utworów, gdzie płytę wydano w formacie SHM-CD.
W Polsce i innych krajach wschodnioeuropejskich wydano tańszą wersję bez książeczki – tzw. “Polska Cena”.
Wersja “Greatest Hits – The Ultimate Collection” posiadała nieco inny projekt okładki:
Równolegle z premierą płyty wydano DVD “Greatest Hits – The Ultimate Video Collection” z piosenkami live. Jego tracklista pokrywa się dokładnie z zawartością albumu podstawowego “Greatest Hits”.

Mieszkańcy Stanów Zjednoczonych oraz Kanady kupując płytę w przedsprzedaży otrzymywali możliwość pobrania utworu “This Is Our House”.
Wersje dostępna w sklepach “Target” posiadała dodatkowo dwie piosenki live: “Diamond Ring” oraz “We Weren’t Born To Follow”.
Wydano także wersję limitowaną składającą się z pendrive’a. Na nośniku USB znalazły się standardowe piosenki oraz zawartość DVD “Greatest Hits – The Ultimate Video Collection” – z wyłączeniem wersji live. Wygląd wersji limitowanej oraz pen-drive’a:

W projektach okładki w pisowni nazwy zespołu użyto czcionki oraz formy używanej w latach 1985 – 1989.
Różne wersje, w zależności o miejsca wydania, zawierały różne dodatki, np. koszulkę (między innymi wersja Hong Kong), książeczkę ze zdjęciami (Taiwan), plakaty (Korea) itd.
W listopadzie 2008 roku, Jon wraz z Richiem zasiedli do pisania piosenek na album Greatest Hits, które początkowo Jon planował wydać w 2009 roku. Proces pisania piosenek nie był jednak prosty, twórcom brakowało konkretnego tematu, z którego mogliby czerpać inspirację, niedługo potem jednak świat miał się zmienić i to bardzo, a razem z tym dać inspirację do pisania piosenek. Światowy kryzys finansowy, który spowodował gwałtowny wzrost bezrobocia w USA oraz problemy świata, natchnęły Jona i Richiego na tyle, że napisali ponad 20 nowych piosenek, co spowodowało, zaniechanie wydania albumu Greatest Hits, a wypuszczenie na świat całkiem nowego studyjnego krążka – The Circle.
W sierpniu 2010 roku Richie Sambora potwierdził datę wydania krążka – 9 listopada 2010 r. 27 sierpnia podczas przerwy w trasie “The Circle Tour” zaprezentowano pierwszą z czterech nowych piosenek, które miały znaleźć się na albumie. Wcześniej, podczas jednego z koncertów, zaprezentowano utwór “This Is Our House”, jednak nie znajdzie się na płycie. Producentem singla promującego album – “What Do You Got?” został Howard Benson.
